A Night at the Mancos Opera House

“The Blacksmith, a Comic Opera” will be performed at the historic Mancos Opera House on May 2 & 3, 2020 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.  This is a 2-act comic opera with songs and dialogue in English, set in the American west of the 1890’s.  The opera will be performed by singing actors and musicians of Opera Lafayette, before being presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and in New York City.  It was composed in 1762 and integrates American folk songs and the audience is invited to sing along. The Mancos Opera House was built in 1910 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.  Also known as Checkerboard Hall, it is among the largest, intact commercial buildings in Mancos and in Montezuma County.
