Summer Fun & Old Time Trains!
What’s happening in Southwest Colorado right now and what dates should you set aside for the summer?
If you’re coming to Mesa Verde country during the summer, try to book your travels around one of Mancos’ most fun times – Burrofest 2023. It all started in 2019 when the Mancos Creative District invited a group of burros and artists to join forces to see what would unfold. They laughed, they painted, they sculpted, and they enjoyed every minute of burro silliness. And the rest is history. This year’s 4th annual celebration of this cute, furry animal will feature art demonstrations, an art market, a burro obstacle course and other burro antics, food trucks, music and more. Burrofest 2023 will be held June 17th at Boyle Park.
But don’t forget some of our always popular ongoing events. If you’re an old steam train aficionado, you’ll love the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Winter excursions to Cascade Canyon are still chugging along the Animas River in San Juan National Forest through May 5, 2023. Go to Durangotrain.com to reserve your seats in one of the old heated rail cars and order a boxed lunch to eat by the fire during your 60-minute layover in Cascade Canyon. The Animas should be running at high speed and volume after the record amount of snowfall we’ve had this winter!
